I was wonderering If I should get the haunted key, Im fourteen years
old and do kids birthday partys, I was thinking it would be a good
marketing point, being able to make a key turn over in your hand right
in front of the parent, give me your ideas, matt

Would that be a capslock key?

You don't need a special key, any large key will do.

Are we talking about the simple $7.oo Haunted Key and manuscript? I
realize money is tight when you're 14 years old, if its so tight that
you have to think about buying a $7.oo trick then maybe you'd be
better off investing it in another trick, or beter yet, a magic book.

With the Haunted Key you recieve a large skeleton key and a little
manuscript, thats it. The key is not gaffed or gimmicked in any way,
the whole thing works on gravity and learning how to manipulate the
key in your hands.

If you do buy the Haunted key someday, think beyond the manuscript.
Use a piece of clear sewing thread and the Al Baker thread hook-up to
make the key perform more animations. The Al Baker thread hook-up is a
piece of thread about six or eight inches long connected from your
thumb nail to your third finger nail. You make objects move or
animate by snagging them as you wave your (prepared) hand over them.
You can perform countless moves with this gimmick, such as turning
over a playing card, do an impromptu Haunted Deck, move a straw or
pencil, etc. You may wish to use regular Invisible Thread for some of
these ideas instead of clear sewing thread, the sewing thread is much
stronger though but slightly more visible.

it's not entirely un gimmicked i think...
I was once told it was well ballanced so that it doesn't just fall after the
mid point and it just continues to turn slowly but good advice from mitch
and there's not a huge amount in the packet - i suppose that's why it's 7
quid / dollars but i'd never use it myself.

Sounds like you're performing it wrong.

very aware of the effect, i have been doing it a long time, i was replying to a
young man who said he heard there was a key, so balanced that after you got it
to the midpoint the balance of the key caused it to fall slowly the rest of the
way, my point was you practice to accomplish that, now find a key to do it for
you, i went to an antique shop and found a huge bowl of keys, searched and
tried many many keys to find the one that works best for me,,,, but it is still
the practice that causes it to seemingly turn of its own accord

Ya I have, at fla markets and antique shows, you have to look for old keys
and try them, I actually find around 10% of them work quite well, and
usually cheape rthana new one, and the good thing is they are authentic and
old looking. Then get a good story going.

Reg eh?

key ' and throw in a free matching spirit key, good deal, i now have a half
dozen keys i use for the haunted key effect and decided to use this combo
routine instead,,,,do the haunted key, switch it for the golden key and knock
them dead(i do not work for conley, and by the way other shops may offer similar
combo deals, worth checking

Scout antique shops for skeleton keys, they're good for all sorts of
magic ideas. The bigger and heavier they are the better they seem to
work for the Haunted Key effect.

I have another trick around here with a skeleton key on the end of a
beaded chain. I don't remember the exact routine with it but the
effect is that of a floating key. It could be used as a card locator.
The key on the chain is brought over several cards, when it gets to
the chosen card the key lifts up and floats around a cople inches.
The secret is a legth of clear sewing thread going from the key to a
piece of wax on your thumb. The fingers hold the chain and the thumb
rises and thus so does the key. Its a spooky effect from the
spectators point of view.

Weave a story about how the skeleton key is from a haunted house.

Another key trick!!

Get a copy of your house key or when you get a car, a copy of that Boxter
key.
Hide it in you hand, palm it or just hold on to it between your thumb and
forefinger. As you aproach your cool sportscar or party van, casually toss
you'r other keys (on their keyring) into the air and catch them. Immediately
insert the car key you were holding into the lock. Looks like you tossed the
keys and picked the right key out of midair.
